DIY Counterweight for John Deere Z5xx Series – $0 Solution

The official John Deere counterweight bracket for the Z5xx series is over $200 just for the bracket, so I came up with a much cheaper alternative that works great.

I took the heavy round base off an old exercise bike, filled it with cement, and painted it black. The bolt holes lined up perfectly with the existing holes on the front of the mower. It weighs right around 10 lbs, looks surprisingly clean once installed, and even has small built-in bumpers.

It does exactly what I needed — takes some of the bounce out of the front end without being overly heavy. Total cost: $0.

Just wanted to share the win in case anyone else is looking for a budget-friendly option!

Appreciate the guide on this. I'm assuming it works with zero issues?

Also, welcome to the forum!

Obviously it doesn't stop the mower from bouncing, but it definitely softens the bounce. No issues at all.
