Remember last season when you rushed to top off and suddenly everything smelled off and your equipment just didn’t run right?
Before another mystery mix messes up your day, let’s share some quick habits, labeling tricks,
and field checks to ensure that fuel, oil, and hydraulics stay where they belong.

I like to use colored tape on my caps, red for gas and blue for bar oil. It’s saved me from mixing things up more times than I can count. A quick look is all it takes to tell them apart.

Always give the can a sniff before you pour. Last season, I discovered that water in fuel has a pretty distinct sour smell. Now, I make it a point to check every single time. It’s a straightforward field test.
