Quieter muffler for a Honda GX670

I put a Honda GX670 in my 1984 John Deere 318 tractor and I'm really happy with the engine itself. But the muffler I have on it is way too loud. It's just a round cylinder with no baffles inside, and it's basically a straight pipe. The good news is it fits perfectly under the hood and lines up well.

I am looking for a quiet muffler that will still fit in that tight space. Has anyone else repowered a John Deere with this engine and do you have any suggestions for a quieter exhaust that won't require me to cut up the body?

you know, if you can't find anything that fits, maybe you need to get a custom muffler.
A local muffler shop can probably whip something up for you fairly cheaply. They can use a small automotive resonator or a quiet glass pack as a starting point and weld up a custom pipe that fits perfectly.
It might cost a little more, but you'll get a professional, quiet result that's guaranteed to fit without cutting up your tractor

I repowered a Deere with that setup and had luck with a compact round muffler off a small industrial engine, it fit without cutting anything and knocked the noise down a lot. Another option is using a SuperTrapp style muffler since you can tune the noise level and they don't take up much space. A short section of pipe with a bend before the muffler also helps tone things down without major mods.
