terragrips for John Deere X500

My dad just bought these terragrips for his John Deere X500 to help with snow plowing, and today was a wild ride.

The first part of his driveway is this super steep blacktop hill. Going up with the plow was great, he was pushing snow like a pro.
But coming back down was another story. The smooth rubber started sliding, and he spun a full 360!
He had 4 suitcase weights on the back, but the snow was just a few inches of fluffy stuff.
He's thinking steel chains would have been better for the way down. What do you all think?

Also, are there different kinds of steel chains for snow? Which kind gives the best grip?

For mowing or simple yard work, TerraGrips are great. But if you're plowing snow on hills, chains are the way to go. A lot of tractor owners have both on hand.

Yeah, Terragrips are nice on flat ground, but on a steep hill nothing beats real steel chains, now to get the max bite, look at the 2 link ladder chains or even V bar chains if ice is a problem coz they'll hold you steady going downhill way better than rubber treads ever will.
