Hey, it's getting cold and diesel engines are acting up. What tricks do you use to keep them running smoothly in the winter? Things like checking glow plugs, using block heaters, fuel additives, and battery tricks are on my mind. What has worked best for you when it’s freezing outside?

I always use a block heater and winter fuel additive together. I also switched to a battery with more cold cranking amps, and starting up in the cold is much easier now.

Also keep an eye on the fuel filter's condition, wax buildup can block the flow. In really cold weather, use No. 1 diesel and check the glow plug cycle time through diagnostics.
