JD 316 Carb problem

I have a 1988 John Deere 316 that's been in my family for years. It has about 600 hours on it. Lately, the engine starts fine but stops after a few minutes. I found out the float in the carb is getting stuck and not letting fuel through. I cleaned it and looked at the needle, but it still happens. I'm thinking about getting a new carb, but I'm not sure which one will fit or if there's a good one I can buy. Has anyone had this problem? Really appreciate any tips!

Before dropping money, double-check the float itself. Sometimes they get tiny leaks, fill with fuel, and stick. If that's the case, you can replace just the float and needle for a fraction of a full carb. If not, there are aftermarket carbs for under $50 that'll work in a pinch.

you should consider a rebuild kit. They're usually pretty cheap, and they'll come with a new needle, seat, and float, which is likely what's sticking.
Sometimes the rubber tip on the old needle gets swollen or hard, and cleaning it just isn't enough. A full rebuild kit is a great first step and will save you a lot of money compared to a new carburetor, and you'll know exactly what you've got
