John Deere 4720 PTO failing again

Man, here we go again with my boss’s old 2008 John Deere 4720. I finally wrestled the shredder onto the back to clear some acreage, and after five minutes of work, the PTO slows down so much it’s basically useless.
This is the third time we've dealt with this. A few years back, the dealer finally fixed it after some serious pestering, but since we barely use the PTO, I have no clue when it gave up again.
I’m starting to think the original owner traded this thing in at 300 hours just to make the PTO someone else's headache haha
It’s frustrating because the tractor is actually solid otherwise. it’s got 1,000 hours on it now, never overheats, and the AC is ice cold.

Anyone else dealt with a recurring PTO fade on these cabs?

The PTO clutch pack is likely shot, either the springs are weak or the friction plates are glazed, which explains the issue. It needs adjusting or replacing based on wear. If this is the third time, it’s clear the problem isn’t being fixed properly. You might want to consider finding a different dealer who can actually resolve the issue for good.

Be sure to check the hydraulic fluid level and its condition, PTO engagement depends on hydraulic pressure.
If the fluid is low or dirty, it can cause slipping under load.
It could also be that the PTO solenoid is failing and not maintaining full pressure over time.
