Imagine you're gearing up for a long shift, and you notice your engine isn't quite right just a little off. Before it leads to stalling or a loss of power, what simple routines, change intervals, or quick checks do you have in place to keep your fuel systems running smoothly?

Change your fuel filter every 200 hours without fail, no exceptions. If you have a water separator, make sure to drain it weekly, water can ruin your injectors in no time. Don't skip keeping a spare filter in the toolbox, getting stuck in the field because of a clogged filter is truly the worst

Always check the fuel quality before filling up, bad diesel can ruin your entire day.
In winter, use a fuel additive to stop gelling.
I found that out the hard way on a freezing morning when nothing would start.

Pay attention to your engine's sound when you start it up every day. Any changes or rough running can be signs that something's wrong. Keep an eye on the exhaust color, black smoke indicates fuel problems, while white smoke might mean water or injector issues. It's better to catch these things early, or it'll cost you more in the long run.

To avoid condensation forming, make sure to keep your tank full overnight, moisture in diesel can cause serious issues for your fuel system. It’s also a good idea to replace your fuel cap if the seal seems worn out, that helps keep dirt and water out. These simple preventive measures can save you a lot of trouble in the long run.
