I have a 1988 575 skid steer. I sent it to a garage for maintenanceI inherited it with my new house -maintenance was not really done. The steering linkage was always a little loose and whiny. It came back from the mechanic now it always wants to turn to the right. It is tough to start and turn off For new pumps it’s $20,000. I can’t put that money into it. But it is worse than when I sent it. Is there any information on how to correct this. I am in PA.

It sounds like something in the drive control linkage might have gotten a bit off during maintenance. If it’s consistently pulling to the right, that’s typically a neutral-centering or linkage alignment problem, rather than a pump failure.
On these older Deere 575s, even a slight adjustment in the rod length, bushings, or centering springs can make one side work harder than the other. I’d recommend starting with these checks:
* Look for misaligned or loose linkage rods
* Check for worn or missing bushings
* See if the control valve spool is returning to neutral smoothly
None of this should require a $20k pump usually, these machines can be fixed with some careful mechanical tweaks. If you can, take it to a shop that specializes in older Deere skid steers they’ll know exactly how to reset the linkage.
