Cold weather hydraulic lag could it be fluid or wear?

You start the machine on a cold morning, and the hydraulics are sluggish to respond. Is it just the fluid you picked, or is wear starting to set in? What have you found that really helps fix this?

Had a similar issue with my backhoe and initially thought it was just wear and tear. Then I figured out that slowly starting up the hydraulics and using the right low-temp fluid kept everything working smoothly without stressing the system.

Totally get that! My old loader used to feel like it was stuck in molasses every morning. Once I switched to a hydraulic fluid that was meant for low temperatures and let it warm up for a bit before starting the day, it made a huge difference.

I faced the same problem with my excavator last winter. I didn’t realize I was using the wrong viscosity fluid for the cold weather. Once I changed to a thinner fluid designed for cold temperatures and let it idle for a while, the sluggishness was gone almost right away.
