john deere 990 light switch issues

new to this whole tractor thing so hoping someone here knows their stuff. got this john deere 990 (not sure what year) with a cab/roof. noticed the light switch was spinning freely so i pulled it out from the dash and tried clicking it back but no luck getting the lights to turn on. checked the fuses, all good. battery's fine too since the tractor fires up no problem. what else should i be checking? could the switch itself be bad? maybe a wire harness issue? any tips would be a huge help!

the swich sounds like the culprit soa multimeter should help you confirm that. on the other hand if thats not the problem you'll need to dig through the wiring and find the short

If that light switch you say is spinning freely, I'd say that thing is broken and need to be replaced.

What about the wires at the switch? Are there any that's loose or corroded?

If the switch is a simple 2 wire single pole switch, you could test the lights easily by just connecting the two leads together while the ignition switch is on and see if the lights come on. It they do, you know the switch needs replacement.

I would say the switch is the prime suspect too! Maybe I'm getting ahead but if you need replacement, there should be OEM parts available with your dealer. For cheaper alternatives, you can check online parts suppliers like GreenPartStore.com, Messicks.com, or even Amazon and eBay!

Yeah, a light switch spinning freely on a tractor usually means the switch itself is busted internally.
Since your fuses are good and the battery's fine, I'd bet on that switch first. Try to continuity test it with a multimeter. If not the switch, then start poking around the wiring harness for a loose or corroded wire. Good luck!
