PTO engagement testing steps

I’ve definitely been caught off guard by a PTO that just wouldn’t engage, so now I make it a point to test it out before diving in.
What’s your go-to strategy for ensuring everything’s running smoothly?
Do you have any quick checks that you rely on to prevent any downtime?

Definitely dealt with my share of PTO issues! Now I always engage it while idling and listen for any strange noises. A quick look at the shaft and the PTO clutch lever is always a good idea too

I've had that PTO grind on me, so nowadays I check the lever and run it under a light load to ensure it engages properly.
If anything feels off, I step back and troubleshoot before diving into the work.

PTO problems are the worst! Now, I always test the engagement under load right off the bat.
I also check the fluid levels and connections to ensure nothing's clogged or slipping.
Quick checks mean no downtime.

Been stuck with a stubborn PTO before, so I make it a point to check for smooth engagement first. A quick pressure test and spinning the PTO shaft lets me know it’s good to go helps me avoid that frustrating 'it’s not working' moment!
