Had that happen while I was mowing and I thought I’d ruined the gearbox. It turned out to be just a misadjusted PTO switch and a worn-out safety interlock. A quick five minutes of adjusting and it was back to tossing grass around like nothing happened.
Mine decided not to engage just as I was about to start baling which was just what I needed, right?
A sticky solenoid and a dirty connector were the culprits.
I gave them a good clean flipped the switch again and just like that the PTO was back on the job
I know that feeling tractor warmed up and the PTO acting like it didn't want to cooperate. I checked the linkage topped off the fluid and discovered a blown fuse that was just sitting there hiding. Fixed that, and it kicked back into action as if it never had a problem with me.
