Favorite vintage Deere model and why it still runs like a champ

Tell me about your favorite old John Deere tractor that still runs. Is it a 4020, a B, or something else? What makes it so reliable, even after all this time? I'd like to hear your stories about it, what you've upgraded, and how you keep it running.

@Greenbutdirty I have a soft spot for the 4430 (Sound-Gard cab series). It was the tractor that finally gave us a decent cab for the modern farmer. It's reliable because of the sheer over-engineering of that generation. They were built for decades of heavy tillage, and now they cruise on lighter duty without breaking a sweat

I'm still using my old 2640. The hydraulics needed some fixing, but that German engine is a tank. Changing the fluids regularly and keeping the wires clean helps to keep it running well.

Those are great choices. I would also put the 4010 and 3020 on that list. With some simple upkeep their basic mechanical injection systems and tough gear drives mean they're almost impossible to destroy

I have to give a shout-out to the JD 70 Diesel, its pony motor start system and tough build truly make it a legend. If you keep the cooling system clean and the fuel lines tight, this machine will run for ages.
